Bagge

Present

I never work with a concept or idea as my starting point. It starts with the clay, in the reality of the material and in the feel of it. The clay and I talk throughout my entire process - it gives me ideas, inspiration and we dance between its limits and mine. My aim is not to control the clay, morphing it into something I want it to be - it’s to follow my intuition and be attentive to what we can say together.

I like to take risks in a way that allows an opportunity for unexpected results to occur. So that my pieces evolve beyond my impressions of them, allowing me to learn from them. I find joy in glaze experiments and working in symbiosis with the clay helps me keep a playful sense of mind.

With my final piece in hand, I reflect on what steps I've taken during my creative process, and why I’ve taken them.

In this state -  I’m able to look at my work with a fresh pair of eyes and see different interpretations of it. Queerness is often something that is present - I find it in the flamboyant shapes and textures, in the sexy movement of my pieces and in their rebellious tactility.
